Teachers CU Awards Educator With Mortgage For A Year

PORTLAND Ore. -- A high school guidance counselor won a year’s free mortgage and $5,000 in supplies for her school by being named Educator of the Year by OnPoint Community CU, the one-time Portland Teachers CU.

Elizabeth Webber-Mikaele, a counselor at Hudson Bay High School, was recognized for developing a comprehensive attendance program, the College and Scholarship Prep Boot Camp, and the Back on Track Alternative School, for at-risk students.

The former teachers’ credit union holds and annual Prize for Excellence in Education Contest to recognize great teachers through Oregon and southwest Washington for their ability to encourage creativity and inspire and positively impact students. Every year hundreds of teachers are nominated by their peers, students, parents and their communities.

The $3 billion credit union also awarded $1,500 to a community choice award winner and $1,500 to his school; $1,500 to each of three finalists and their schools; and $250 to each of three semi-finalists and their schools.
