CUNA Technology Council Releases Two White Papers
MADISON, Wis.-The CUNA Technology Council has two new white papers out on preparing for a technology audit and how to make a case for hiring a chief security officer.
"Preparing for an NCUA Technology Audit: Making Risk Assessment a Full-Time Job" outlines the steps and procedures to strengthen IT security and to prepare for a technology audit. The paper identifies three areas of growing weakness along with common security issues and outlines a security inventory process for prepping for an IT audit.
"Credit Union Security: Making a Case for Hiring a Chief Security Officer" shows how increased security threats may call for the creation of a chief security officer position at a credit union. The paper explores the guidelines and objectives for making the decision to hire a security officer. The white papers are free to CUNA Council members; non-members may purchase them for $50 per copy.

Tech CU Provides Members With e-tax Statements
SAN JOSE, Calif.-It's tax time, and credit unions across the country are sending tax statements to members as they do every year, except for Technology Credit Union, which is sending them electronically for the first time.
More than 31,405 members (more than 40% of total membership) have signed up to receive e-statements from Tech CU, one of the highest enrollment percentages in the industry, and now those members can receive their tax statements electronically, too, as Tech CU says it has become one of the first financial institutions in the nation to offer e-tax statements.
Tech CU members who are enrolled in eStatements received their first electronic tax statements for 1099INT (earning $10 or more), 1099R, 1099 SA and 1098 (HELOCs only) Feb. 6. Tech CU says it will roll out additional statement groups (5498 for IRA contributions and 1098 for first mortgages) later in the year.
