uSwitch Wins Best Of Show

WASHINGTON-uMonitor's uSwitch online switch kit was named the winner of CUNA Technology Council's Best of Show Award at the 2009 Governmental Affairs Conference. uSwitch allows members to transfer all their financial relationships to a different FI quickly. They can switch any direct deposit transactions, transfer automatic payments, switch loan accounts or credit cards, and close accounts at other FIs. It can be integrated into a new account. A senior vice president for Chicago-based Alliant CU said the product was unique and "can save credit unions time and money while building their member base." The CUNA Technology Council presents Best of Show awards to exhibitors that demonstrate a commitment to delivering technology that furthers growth of products and services. Products are evaluated according to affordability, the benefit to CUs, a commitment to open standards, current product use, and health of the company.

How CUs Get e-Mail Addresses

PORTSMOUTH, N.H.-How do credit unions capture member e-mail addresses? A survey conducted by mailmethods, a developer of e-mail solutions, asked just that question and found the top three methods were: 17%, teller incentives; 13%, upon account opening, and 13% via the credit union's website. More traditional methods included branch signage (6%), direct mail (4%) and telemarketing (2%).

CU Launches Learning Center

GERMANTOWN, Md.-Mid-Atlantic FCU has relaunched its website at www.mafcu.org. The new site features a new "Learning Center" with educational financial articles and tips categorized by life stages. Young adults can learn how to establish good financial habits. Singles can learn about reviewing their credit report. Families can learn about money and marriage, and financing college educations. Retirees can take the mystery out of reverse mortgages, estate planning and managing retirement plan distributions, the CU explained.

The site also houses a "Financial Tips" section, a "Mortgage Center" and a "Small Business Resource Center." includes helpful tips on starting a small business, improving cash flow and disaster recovery.
