Teen Sentenced In CU Stand-off

An 18-year-old male who held 20 people at gunpoint at Centra CU last July was sentenced to six years in prison.

Police said Galen Kroger staged the assault not to rob the credit union but to provoke police into killing him.

Three psychologists who examined Kroger said the teen suffered from depression. Kroger stormed the CU wearing a bandana mask and armed with a rifle, but never asked for money during a three-hour negotiation with police, after which he let go of all the captives.

The stand-off ended when Kroger ran out of the CU and police launched a flash-and-bang device, knocking him to the ground.
