Teller Jailed For $625,000 CU Theft

MACON, Ga. – A former head teller at MidSouth FCU on Wednesday was sentenced to three years in federal prison for stealing almost $625,000 from teller drawers and the cash vault between 2001 and 2007.

“I know what I did was horrible,” said Lisa Cox at her sentencing. “I’m so sorry for everything I did.”

Cox used the money to gamble, take European vacations, make car payments and to pay other expenses, according to authorities.

Cox worked for the credit union for 17 years, most recently at the Mercer University Drive branch. A 2007 audit uncovered missing money.

As part of her sentence, Cox was ordered to pay $624,000 in restitution.
