Texas League, Jamaican CU League To Partner

The Texas Credit Union League and the Jamaica Co-operative Credit Union League Ltd. have formed a partnership to foster an international exchange of education and expertise. The partnership follows relationships between many credit unions in the Lone Star State with CUs in Jamaica. Most recently, Houston-based Smart Financial started working with the Jamaica Teachers Association Co-operative Credit Union.

Their relationship is one of 14 joint ventures between Lone Star financial institutions and those in the Caribbean nation. Other credit unions breaking through international borders include San Antonio City Employees FCU, Houston-based Energy Capital CU, and Texoma Community CU in Wichita Falls. The partnerships were spearheaded by the World Council of Credit Unions. Jamaica has 49 credit unions, the largest of which has approximately $50 million in assets.
