The District Credit Union in Aurora, Colorado, has promoted Steve Bouras to be its president and chief executive.
The $150 million-asset credit union announced that Bouras, who first joined District in 2016 and most recently worked as its vice president and chief operating officer, took on his new role on Jan.1. He succeeded Brad Johnson, who retired after holding the role since 2002, according to Johnson's LinkedIn page.
"Steve has demonstrated his commitment to building a strong financial institution … he will continue that focus as he forges an even stronger culture of serving our members," Suzanne Acheson, chairperson of District's board, said in a press release Wednesday.
Founded in 1961 by eight Aurora Public School teachers as Aurora Schools Federal Credit Union, the institution has since grown to over 7,500 members.
"This position is exactly what I've been working toward throughout my career, and I am honored to be given the opportunity to lead the District Credit Union," Bouras said in the press release. “Brad Johnson gave me some advice early on to put the work in and good things will follow … Brad's shoes are big ones to fill, and our team and I are here to put in the work that will make even more good things happen."
