The Maine Man
PORTLAND, Maine-Following a search that attracted 26 applicants, Maine's credit unions have selected the spokesperson for their "Young & Free" campaign. Seth Poplaski, a 24-year-old Winterport native who now lives in Bangor, was selected for the position. Poplaski discovered he had won the job at an announcement party in Bangor, where he was surprised with nearly 50 of his friends and family, in addition to over 50 representatives from Maine credit unions, according to the Maine league.
"Through the combination of his videos, blog entries, and how he spread the word about Young & Free Maine, Seth was a stand-out applicant, and proved that he has the writing skills, on-air presence and ability to communicate with Maine's 25 and under crowd that make him an obvious choice for this exciting new opportunity," said MCUL President John Murphy.
As the spokesperson for Young & Free Maine, Poplaski will work on behalf of Maine's credit unions in a one-year contract with salary. He will serve as a reporter and advocate for his age group, attending events and creating daily online content. The league has provided him with a MacBook Pro laptop, a digital video camera, and a Young & Free Chevy Cruze to drive during his term.
YoungFreeMaine.com targets youth under age 25 and is part of the larger Young & Free campaign that other state leagues have run as well. It originated with a credit union in Canada.
