HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Three suspects on Friday were charged with trying to pass as much as $10,000 in counterfeit checks at Nassau Educators FCU and Teachers FCU.

The three were arrested after one of them, 18-year-old Diane Knapper, tried to cash a check at a Nassau Educators branch and an alert teller called police. Waiting in the parking lot for the teen suspect were two men in possession of more bogus checks. The two were identified as Michael Lightly, 23, and Gregory Taylor, 30.
The three also tried to pass checks at various branches of Teachers FCU.
