Three More Banks Fail

WASHINGTON – Regulators closed another three banks Friday, making 14 failures so far for 2011.

Friday’s failures included two in Georgia, where four banks have been closed so far this year and 55 since the beginning of 2008. Friday’s Georgia failures were: American Trust Bank, a $238 million Roswell bank, and North Georgia Bank, a $153 million institution in Watkinsville.

Regulators also shuttered Community First Bank, a $51 million Chicago institution, on Friday.

There were 157 bank failures in 2010 and 140 failures in 2009.
