NEW YORK – The former treasurer of defunct St. Charles Borromeo Church FCU was sentenced yesterday to three years in prison for stealing more than $100,000 from the credit union used by Harlem church members.

Former manager and treasurer Chinithia Bills pleaded guilty to bank fraud in January.
The theft forced the collapse of the tiny credit union, which had less than $500,000 in assets, in 2005.
Prosecutors say Bills used various schemes to take the money between April, 2003, to December, 2005. They say she used the money for personal expenses.
Bills was sentenced to 37 months in prison and ordered to pay $135,000 in restitution.
