RALEIGH, N.C. - (08/16/05) -- Jury selection began Monday in themurder trial for Larry Carter, 26, accused of killing his estrangedgirlfriend at a State Employees CU ATM last year. Carter and histwin brother, Lamont, are charged with killing 24-year-oldShaundria Barfield so they could collect the insurance money.Barfield was found shot to death in the parking lot of the StateEmployee's Credit Union on Pacific Drive in July 2004. Larry Carterwas identified from a surveillance video at the credit union's ATMwhich showed Barfield making a transaction that Friday night. Apassing jogger found Barfield's body early the following morning,slumped over the steering wheel of her car, with the radio playingand headlights still shining.
