COLLINSVILLE, Ill. – Scott CU on Monday said two recent armed robberies at its Cahokia branch have prompted it to close the facility.
“It is important that members know that we made the decision to close the branch after tireless assessment of the security needs of our employees and members at our Cahokia facility,” Frank Padak, president of the $600-million credit union, said in response to the June 19 and July 2 robberies.
The branch has been closed since two assailants forced their way inside on July 2 as tellers were arriving for the day. The robbers tied up the tellers and got away with an undisclosed amount of money.
The branch has been robbed four times in the last two years, which is more than the 14 other Scott CU locations combined.
Employees at the Cahokia branch have been reassigned to serve members at Scott CU’s 14 other branches, said Padak.
The credit union’s 24-hour ATM will remain open at the Cahokia location.
