SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Two teenage boys, ages 15 and 16, suspected of trying to rob the CommunityWide FCU, were arrested yesterday morning soon after the incident.
At about 10:13 a.m., the teens each gave notes demanding money to two separate tellers, slipping the notes under security glass, according to South Bend Police. The tellers alerted police. The boys fidgeted a while, then ran out the door.
As police arrived, one teen was caught in the parking lot with help from a police dog. The other youth jumped the fence to an industrial area in back of the credit union. Police then set up a perimeter to find him. Police dogs helped to find him hiding in a Dumpster.
Both teens were apprehended within about 25 minutes of the robbery attempt. The first youth who was apprehended was taken to Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center for a minor injury from the police dog’s bite.
No weapons were found on the suspects, police said. No money was taken.
