United SA CU rebrands as United Texas CU

United SA Credit Union has rebranded as United Texas Credit Union, citing that the new name is “inclusive” and “more accurately” reflects the credit union’s expanded field of membership.

The name change became effective on August 1, according to marketing director Karla Sarran.

The new name is part of a “new brand positioning” to support the $228 million credit union’s efforts to “expand its membership and distinguish its offerings” from other financial institutions.”

The “SA” in the old name stood for San Antonio, the credit union’s headquarters, Sarran added.

United SA CU was originally chartered in 1955 to serve the employees of United Services Automobile Association. In 2005, the credit union converted to a community charter and now serves anyone who lives, works, worships, attends school and businesses in Bexar, Kendall, and western Comal counties.

“From our beginnings over 60 years ago as a single-sponsor credit union to today, we now serve over 18,000 members in three Texas counties,” Kyle Ashley, United Texas CU’s president and chief executive officer, said in a statement.

United Texas CU further said that its plans for “increasing visibility and service” to local communities in its field of membership include the unveiling of a “technologically-advanced” website at www.utxcu.com, the renovation of all offices, and the relocation of its Thousand Oaks branch to a new location in the Redland Trails Shopping Center in San Antonio later in August.

The credit union posted net income of $1.45 million in 2016, according to its call report, after recording net income of $776 thousand in the prior year.
