Utah Shares Lessons Learned With Alabama CUs

Credit unions in Alabama were told to pay attention to lessons learned by credit union in Utah.

Spencer Stokes, president of Stokes Strategies, which works with the Utah league, told credit unions attending a CU-VOTE Luncheon that they need to get a preparedness plan in place for a possible banker's attack in Alabama. He cited several similarities between Utah and Alabama, noting the 1.2 million credit union members in Utah compared to Alabama's 1.4 million members, both state's being involved with a budget crisis, and both states having bankers as the Speakers of their respective House of Representatives.

Stokes stressed the importance of educating legislators, CU members, and the general public about the credit union difference-a primary goal of CU-VOTE's image campaign.
