Volunteers Sought At GAC To Help Pack Meals For Hungry

WASHINGTON - In conjunction with the crowds of credit unionists to be in town for CUNA’s GAC in early March, Credit Union Development Educators (DE) will be spending a morning helping to pack meals for the hungry.

Organized as a DE community project, Carla Decker, CEO of District Government EFCU, and Melissa Farley, owner of mb consulting, and working with “Stop Hunger Now,” CU DE volunteers will pack 15,000 meals on Sunday, March 2, from 9 a.m. to noon at DGEFCU’s office on 14th and U Streets NW.

The specially formulated packages are fortified rice-soy meals containing more 20 vitamins and minerals especially formulated for the undernourished, and will be vacuum-sealed in bags three millimeters thick, allowing them to be stored for a as long as five years.

Donations are also being accepted.
