Washington’s Parker Cann Leaves Columbia CU For BECU

VANCOUVER, Wash. – Parker Cann, the former state credit union supervisor who took the helm at Columbia CU after it was torn apart by a failed conversion to savings bank, is leaving the $750 million credit union to become general counsel at giant BECU.

Cann, who served seven years as head of the state credit union regulator before moving to a senior executive position at California’s Arrowhead Central CU, took over Columbia CU in 2005 after the failed conversion attempt tore apart the board of directors and caused major dissension among the members.

Cann will become senior vice president and corporate counsel at BECU, the nation’s fourth largest credit union with $8.6 billion in assets, on May 4.

Columbia’s board has formed an executive search committee and expects to select the recruiting firm for their nationwide search by next week. The search process is expected to take a minimum of three months.
