Winn-Dixie Settlement Lifts Cardtronics Into the Black

HOUSTON – Cardtronics Inc., the world’s largest ATM operator and a major credit union partner, reported that a settlement agreement with a large customer, Winn-Dixie Stores Inc., enabled it to book a fourth quarter profit. Cardtronics, the parent of the surcharge-free Allpoint Network, said the recognition of $4.8 million in other income, most of it from the Winn-Dixie settlement, allowed it to report a $2.4 million profit for the fourth quarter, compared to a $1.6 million loss for the fourth quarter in 2005. Fourth quarter revenues rose 7% to $74.8 million. However, Cardtronics continued to report losses for its fiscal year of $327,000, down from losses of $2.4 million for fiscal 2005. Fiscal year revenues rose 9% to $292.6 million. The company, which owns or operates more than 25,000 ATMs, is expanding aggressively into Mexico and the United Kingdom.
