WOCCU Plans Kit, Conference On Savings Mobilization

The World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU) said it will release a tool kit called "Best Practices in Savings Mobilization" when it hosts a conference on that topic Nov. 6-7 in Washington, D.C. The Best Practices Project is being carried out by WOCCU and the German Confederation of Credit Unions (DGRV).

"Through practitioner-focused conferences and the publication of operational guidelines on savings mobilization, WOCCU together with DGRV, shares lessons learned from credit union savings experience in Latin America with all microfinance institutions interested in expanding or initiating savings services," WOCCU said.

Separately, WOCCU reported that in Guatemala, 20 credit unions and the National Federation of Credit Unions and Multiple Service Cooperatives (FENACOAC) have signed 2002 participation agreements with the WOCCU Rating Agency. The certification demonstrates that the organizations are sound and safe financial institutions and is based on WOCCU's PEARLS financial monitoring system.
