PR CU Joins NY League
LATHAM, N.Y.-Representatives of credit unions in Puerto Rico and New York have held the fourth meeting since 2005. The meeting included a new page in the two groups' history when Luis López, president of Abraham Rosa Cooperativa, announced that his CU will become the first associate member of the league from Puerto Rico. The meeting, which took place in Puerto Rico, also marked another milestone-the expansion of the partnership to include credit unions in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Thirty-two individuals representing 23 credit unions from Puerto Rico, St. Thomas and St. Croix participated in the meeting.
Chinese Group Visits U.S.
RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif.-A 10-member contingent from China's rural credit cooperative (RCC) and regulatory systems wrapped up a trip to visit CUs on both coasts.
The trip, arranged by World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU), brought eight managers and directors from China's Guizhou Provincial Rural Credit Cooperative Union and two managers from the Guizhou branch of the Chinese Banking Regulatory Commission together with California CU and league executives to study competitive advantages.
In California, the Chinese contingent visited the league, WesCorp and San Mateo Credit Union in Redwood City, Calif., to learn from a variety of sources how the U.S. credit union system is organized.
WOCCU said the Chinese delegation was particularly interested in the strategic planning processes many California credit unions use.
The group later traveled to Washington where the visited with CUNA and talked about capital-related issues.
