Paper Probes Goal Behind Fin. Education
MADISON, Wis.-CUES has released a new white paper that probes CU leaders about their motivation to provide financial education and how they deliver training. The paper, "Financial Education Practices in Credit Unions," was written by Joe Saari, CEO, Precision Information, LLC. Among the findings: When asked how credit unions are delivering financial education, 54% of respondents reported they use workshops; 58% use e-mails or newsletters; and 69% use printed newsletters or magazines.

FSCC's Kramer WIns Woman Of The Year
ONTARIO, Calif.-Bonnie Kramer, EVP and chief operating officer with Financial Service Centers Cooperative, Inc. has been named VIP Woman of the Year by the National Association of Professional Women. A 42-year veteran of credit unions, Kramer was recognized for her philanthropic work through Credit Unions for Kids and the Children's Miracle Network, the World Council of Credit Unions, Tender Mercies ministries supporting children in Uganda, and several other organizations.
Poll Explores How Americans Handle Debt
SILVER SPRING, Md.-An online poll of more than 11,000 Americans found that "ignoring their debt" was identified by 10% of those surveyed as the initial way they would deal with debts if in financial distress. Among the other findings in the Financial Literacy Opinion Index poll conducted in January by the National Foundation for Credit Counseling:
* 38% said their first action would be to seek help from a legitimate credit counseling agency if in financial distress.
* Noting that credit counseling and debt settlement are two very different options, the survey also tested consumer responses related to debt settlement and found 33% knew that talking directly to their creditors to arrange a settlement was the right thing to do, but 14% said that reaching out to a debt settlement company would be their first step.
Pennsylvania CU Veteran Passes Away
HARRISBURG, Penn.-Longtime PSECU board member John Marisic recently passed away. Marisic, who most recently held the position of vice chair at PSECU, had also been a member of the Pennsylvania CU Association Government Affairs Committee since 2003. Marisic was graduate of Johns Hopkins University. He is survived by his wife Sally, and two daughters, Anne and Katie.
NAFCU Adds Pevo To Legislative Affairs Grp
ARLINGTON, Va.-NAFCU has named Jillian M. Pevo has been named associate director of legislative affairs. Pevo was most recently a legislative assistant for the House Appropriations Committee, and also worked in the office of Rep. Frank Wolf (R-Va.).
