Golden Mirror Awards Call For Entries
MADISON, Wis.-CUES is accepting submissions for its 2010 Golden Mirror Awards, for work done during 2009. Submissions prior to May 21 will save $30 per entry. NCUA To Host Virtual Town Hall Meeting
ALEXANDRIA, Va.-NCUA will hold a Town Hall Webinar on Thursday, Feb. 18, at 3 p.m. (EST) at which it said staff will discuss several pending regulatory proposals - strengthening the corporate credit union system and streamlining community charter applications - in addition to other topics. Viewers will be able to submit questions that will be addressed during the live session.

WOCCU, Dominican CUs Team To Help Haiti
PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti-The World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU) and the Dominican Republic's CU movement, have joined with this country's credit unions to mobilize and collect and deliver emergency supplies to Haiti's damaged and destroyed credit unions, known as caisse populaires. "Credit unions left standing have used their existing network to help displaced members of damaged institutions access their accounts with biometric identification cards and receive much-needed remittances," WOCCU reported. Some 16 CUs in Haiti serve 300,000 members, and three CUs, KOTELAM, CLEF and CPSA, lost key offices and five staff members. WOCCU has been partnering with Haiti credit unions in a project known as the Haiti Integrated Finance for Value Chains and Enterprises (HIFIVE) program, which began in June 2009.
CUs in Haiti have been working to share office space, WOCCU reported, and KOTELAM has created a special office to aid members who have lost their records and identification.

Whitehead To Take Reins At NCUA Region V
ALEXANDRIA, Va.-NCUA appointed Elizabeth Whitehead, an executive in its Northeast Region One, as the new director for its west coast Region Five, home to some of the biggest problem credit unions. Whitehead, who joined NCUA as an examiner in 1988, is one of the few top NCUA executives with credit union experience, joining the agency from Hurlbut Employees FCU, in North Lee, Mass., where she served as CEO.
The Tempe, Ariz.-based Region Five office oversees 480 federal credit unions in Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming and Guam-but not California or Nevada. Those two troubled "Sand States" have been moved to supervisory units in Regions I and II under a reallocation of resources by NCUA.
