Ditka, Kurtis Headline NAFCU Conference
ARLINGTON, Va.-NFL Hall-of-Famer Mike Ditka and acclaimed broadcast journalist Bill Kurtis have been added to the speakers for NAFCU's 43rd Annual Conference & Exhibition, July 20-24, at Navy Pier Chicago. In addition, NAFCU has arranged for conference-goers to spend Friday afternoon for a Cubs-Cardinals game. Registrants will receive tickets to the game and will be able to purchase additional tickets for guests on a first-come, first-serve basis.

WOCCU Offers Special Discount
MADISON, Wis.-The World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU) is reducing certain administrative charges for registrants at its The 1 Credit Union Conference later this year following heightened homeland securities regulations that are making it more difficult for some non-U.S. residents to enter the country. WOCCU noted that since the attempted terrorist airline bombing on Christmas Day, it has become more difficult to obtain visas to the U.S., often requiring the foreign national to provide proof of purpose in order to obtain entry. WOCCU will extend the invitation to registrants once fees are paid in full. Attendees who pay their fees prior to May 20 but are unable to get visas will have their full conference registration refunded minus a $100 processing fee. Attendees who register after May 20, do not get their visa and cancel by June 11 will have their fees refunded minus a $200 processing fee. The meeting, co-hosted with CUNA, is July 11-14 in Las Vegas.

MERRILLVILLE, Ind.-The $60-million Members Source Credit Union absorbed the $5.6-million SMH FCU via merger. The combined CU will serve more than 9,000 members.
California Honors 'Unsung Heroes'
RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif.-Three people - Peggy Holliday, Stan Abrams and Mal Sinclair - have been named "Unsung Heroes" by the California CU League. The awards are presented for service "above and beyond" to those who have served the credit union movement more than 20 years. Holliday, CEO of Burbank FCU for more than four decades before retiring Jan. 29, set up the first student CU west of the Mississippi, and was active in the league. Abrams, in the movement for 33 years, worked for the league and also served 21 years as CEO of Partners FCU, and was a charter member of the CU Presidents Association and Western CUNA Management School Alumni Association. Sinclair became CEO of Famco (formerly Ameron) FCU in 1977 and retired in 2001 and was active on boards of his local chapter and WesCorp.
SE CUNA Management School Slated
ATHENS, Ga.-Southeast CUNA Management School's annual session will be at the Georgia Center from June 11-18. Registration is $1,445, but those who pay on or before May 13 will receive a $100 discount. First-year students will have to pay a one-time class activity fee of no more than $150 in addition to tuition. Scholarships are available.
