Caldwell Choice at 1st Choice
ATLANTA-1st Choice Credit Union has named Daniel Caldwell as its new president/CEO. Caldwell has been with 1st Choice since 2008, and had been serving as interim president after previously being CFO.
Four Kansans Are Honored
WICHITA, Kan.-The Kansas CU Association has honored four people: Professional of the Year, Larry Eisenhauer, president/CEO of Kansas Corporate CU; Volunteers of the Year, Larry Duntz of Central Star CU and Robert Reeves of Kansas State University FCU; and voted to the KCUA Hall of Fame, Henry Buset, longtime CU leader at Kansas Teachers Community CU, who retired in 2002.
'Palmetto Protoge' Is Named
COLUMBIA, S.C.-Ernest "Dizzy" Felkel of Hartsville, S.C., has been named as the "South Carolina Palmetto Protégé." In that role, Felkel will serve for one year as statewide spokesperson for young adults on behalf of CUs. Felkel is marketing and member education coordinator at SPC Credit Union and will use social media and occasional appearances to highlight CUs, and will also establish and lead a Young Professional Initiative group.
Long-Time NY Leader Dies
ALBANY, N.Y.-Long-time New York credit union leader Edwin G. Pustelnik has died. Pustelnik was the former president/CEO of Buffalo Fire Department FCU, who spent 40 years in credit unions, beginning as a clerk and also serving on the board. Mr. Pustelnik was also active in the state league and in CUNA.
Earnings Strong At First Carolina
GREENSBORO, N.C.-First Carolina Corporate CU is reporting 2011 earnings of $5.2 million, which is more than double its forecast. more than twice initial budget projections. Retained earnings totaled $8.4 million, for a ratio of 0.53%, which surpasses NCUA's October 2013 required threshold of 0.45%. FCCCU has also exceeded NCUA's requirement of total capital (4%) requirement by hitting 5.20% at year-end, based on 12-month rolling average assets. The corporate closed the year with $1.45 billion in assets, a decline from $1.9 billion at year-end 2010 but part of its capital restoration plan.
$90K Raised For CMN For Kids
BOCA RATON, Fla.--Almost $90,000 was raised for Children's Miracle Network during CO-OP Financial Services' THINK 12 Conference here, including a $10,000 donation from CO-OP itself. The funds are in addition to the $1 million CO-OP donated on behalf of CUs to Credit Unions for Kids.
11 CUs Certified As CDFIs
NEW YORK--Eleven more credit unions have been certified as community development financial institutions (CDFIs) by the U.S. Department of the Treasury. The new CDFIs are: 1st Valley CU, San Bernadino, Calif.; Cross Valley FCU, Wilkes-Barre, Penn.; ERDA FCU, New York; Financial Health (Clarian) FCU, Indianapolis; Forward Financial CU, Niagara, Wis.; Manatee Community FCU, Brandenton, Fla.; Mid-Cities Financial CU, Compton, Calif.; Military and Civilian FCU, Fort Wainwright, Ark.; Nueva Esperanza Community CU, Toledo, Ohio; UBC Southern Council Industrial Workers FCU, Minden, La.; and Xavier University Employees FCU, New Orleans.

Del CUL Elects Board; Honors Pair
CASTLE, Del.-Two people have been re-elected to the Delaware CU League's board: Sharon Schaeffer of Delaware First FCU, and Susan Winward of Wilmington Postal FCU. Elected as board officers were: Chair, Jerry King of DEXSTA FCU; Vice chair, Sharon Schaeffer; Secretary, Meredith Jeffries of New Castle County Delaware FCU, and Treasurer, Cheryl Chilcutt of Louviers FCU.
During the meeting, James Everhart, CEO of Louviers FCU was named Outstanding CU Professional, while Karen Whitaker-Brown, board member at Del-One FCU, was named Outstanding Volunteer.

HERMANTOWN, Minn.-Metro Credit Union is being absorbed via merger by Hermantown FCU.
Griffin Retires After 44 Years In CUs
AUGUSTA, Maine-Judy Griffin, who began at the then Central Maine Power CO. FCU in 1967, has retired. Griffin was CEO for the past for years. CMPCFCU merged with Hannaford Associates FCU to create Trademark FCU in 2010.
Insight CU Expands FOM
ORLANDO, Fla.--Insight Credit Union has been approved by state regulators to expand its FOM to include six Florida counties: Levy, Dixie, Taylor, Gilchrist, Columbia and Suwannee.
BizKid$ Now On Armed Forces TV
MADISON, Wis.-The credit union-backed TV show aimed at promoting financial literacy among youth, Biz Kid$, has now gone worldwide as it joins programming on the American Forces Network (AFN) on military bases overseas. Biz Kid$ is donating the first 26 Episodes (101-126) to AFN. The five-year-old program is overseen by the National Credit Union Foundation.
Scholarships Renamed After Former CEO
NEWPORT NEWS, Va.-Langley FCU surprised long-time President/CEO Jean M. Yokum by renaming the LFCU Galaxy Graduate Scholarship as the Jean M. Yokum Scholarship Program. Yokum had a 59-year-career with LFCU, and as CEO oversaw growth from $75 million in assets to $1.6-billion. The program awards four $5,000 scholarships to local high school students each year.
INDIANAPOLIS--Eli Lilly FCU has been named as one of the Best Places to Work in Indiana in the category of companies with 15 to 249 employees. It is the third consecutive year the CU has been so honored.
NAPERVILLE, Ill. --The Illinois CU Foundation awarded $42,880 in Small Credit Union Development (SCUD), Community Service, Marketing and Business Development, and Financial Independence & Revitalization Effort (FIRE) grants.
