Westerly Community In FHLB Program
WESTERLY, R.I.-Westerly Community Credit Union has been approved to participate in the Federal Home Loan Bank Equity Builder Program. The $100,000 grant will be used by WCCU to help secure home ownership for low- to moderate-income households, with awards of up to $10,000 per eligible family available on a first-come, first-served basis until funds are exhausted.
Group Meets With White House
MADISON, Wis.-Summit Credit Union CEO/President Kim Sponem joined with a group of other Wisconsin business leaders who met with Obama administration officials to discuss business ideas, job creation and economic development. The all-day meeting was held at the White House and is one of a series being facilitated by Washington, D.C.-based Business Forward.
Diamond CU A Top 50 Business
READING, Penn.-Diamond Credit Union has been named winner of a Greater Reading Top 50 Businesses Award by the Greater Reading Chamber of Commerce & Industry. DCU was the only financial institution on the 2012 list, which recognizes both large and small companies that have a positive influence on the future of the Greater Reading area. This is the sixth consecutive year that Diamond has made the list.
$184K Raised For Area Hospitals
BOISE, Idaho-Idaho CUs donated nearly $184,000 to area children's hospitals through the Credit Unions for Kids program. The funds were distributed to St. Luke's Children's Hospital in Boise ($69,797), Primary Children's Medical Center in Salt Lake City ($90,599), and Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d'Alene ($32,919).
2 People Honored In Idaho
BOISE, Idaho-The Idaho CU League has named Robert Taylor, CEO of Idaho State University CU as its Outstanding Professional of Year, and Joan Erickson of Clearwater CU as its Volunteer of the Year. Taylor was recognized for 25 years of contributions to credit unions and the league, while Erickson, who has worked as a professional and volunteer in credit unions since 1969, was honored for work promoting CUs, and in particular smaller CUs.
3 Inducted Into Tennessee HOF
NASHVILLE, Tenn.-Three people have been inducted into the Tennessee Credit Union Hall of Fame, which is sponsored by the Tennessee league and Volunteer Corporate: John D. McKittrick, retired president/CEO, ORNL FCU; Paul C. Monk, board chairman, Clinchfield FCU, Erwin; and Thomas F. Gaines, III, president/CEO, Tennessee league.
Kordeleski Delivers Commencement
BETHPAGE, N.Y.-Bethpage FCU CEO Kirk Kordeleski delivered the keynote address to 1,640 graduates of Farmingdale State College, a campus of the State University of New York. Kordeleski was also given an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters (L.H.D.) conferred by the SUNY Board of Trustees.
Justice FCU Expands Into Georgia
CHANTILLY, Va.-The $550-million Justice FCU, the credit union for the U.S. Department of Justice and various law enforcement agencies, is expanding south with a deal to merge in Georgia Department of Public Safety CU.
Churchill Named CEO At Century FCU
CLEVELAND-Century FCU said interim CEO Sharon Churchill has been named the permanent head of the $326-million CU.
New Name Has An Edge To It
LIVERPOOL, N.Y.-The $37-million Liverpool Central Schools FCU has changed its name to Edge FCU. Chartered in 1956 to serve teachers, it has since expanded its FOM.
Elections, Honors In Pennsylvania
HARRISBURG, Penn.-The Pennsylvania CU Association has re-elected Chairman Michael Kaczenski of Sun East FCU and Vice Chairman Maria LaVelle of Westmoreland Community FCU to one-year terms. In addition, David Baker, president and Treasurer of York Educational FCU won the William W. Pratt Lifetime Achievement Award as 2012 CU Professional of the Year, and Robert "Bob" Greek of Pittsburgh Central FCU won Outstanding Volunteer of the Year.
32 More Graduate From Institute
MADISON, Wis.-The Credit Union Executives Society said 32 CU execs recently completed all three years of its executive education program, CEO Institute. In addition, 27 of the graduates earned their Certified Chief Executive (CCE) designation. IN all, 424 people have earned CCE designations.
CFO Council Elects Board
MADISON, Wis.-The CUNA CFO Council has elected its board leadership positions: David D'Annunzio, SVP/CFO for Heritage Trust FCU in Charleston, S.C. will remain council chair; Pam Finch, VP/CFO with Mid Minnesota FCU in Baxter, Minn. will remain vice chair; Suzanne Weinstein, CFP for Orlando FCU in Florida will become the secretary/treasurer. Lund To Take Over At America First
OGDEN, Utah - The $5.6-billion America First CU said that EVP John Lund has been named to replace the retiring Rick Craig as its CEO. Craig will step down on Sept. 1. the $5.6 billion credit union, announced today its long-time CEO Rick Craig is retiring and will be succeeded by executive vice president John Lund Sept. 1 "America First Credit Union has flourished under Rick's guidance, innovation, and insight," said Chairman Linda Carver.
Maine Selects its New 'Spokester'
PORTLAND, Maine-Kylie Keene, a 22-year-old from Old Town, Maine, has been named as the new Young & Free Maine Spokester. In the role Keene was speak to and with consumers age 18-25 and will serve a one-year term and be given a digital video camera, smart phone, laptop (that she will be able to keep), in addition to a paid contract for the year. She will also have use of the Young & Free Maine Chevy Cruze during her term.

ARLINGTON, Va.--Patty Idol, president of Mountain Credit Union, Waynesville, NC, has been appointed to the board of the NASCUS Credit Union Executive Council. Idol will fill the unexpired term of Jim Blaine, CEO of State Employees' Credit Union, Raleigh, N.C., who is not seeking re-election after more than a decade of service on the NASCUS Credit Union Executive Council.
MIDLAND, Mich. - Members First CU is combining with Central Michigan Community CU of Clare, Mich., to create a $317-million credit union. Members First will be the surviving entity, with Eric Brubaker continuing as CEO of the combined credit union.
LEWISTON, Maine - Community CU has named Kerry Wood as its new president and CEO. Wood was previously EVP, and succeeds Donna Steckino, who has retired after 30 years.
