Spangler Succeeds Baker As CEO
YORK, Penn.-York Educational FCU has named Nicholas Spangler, its vice president the past 10 years, as successor to David Baker as president and CEO of the $27-million credit union. Baker retired June 1 after 40 years as CEO.Spangler worked for Pentagon FCU and HEW FCU in Washington, D.C., before going to work at York Educational.
CU Changes 'Florida' To 'First'
TALLAHASSEE, Fla.-Florida Commerce Credit Union has changed its name to First Commerce Credit Union. FCCU said it made the change as part of a regional FOM expansion, including plans to open a financial center in Thomasville, Georgia this summer. The $360-million CU has 39,000 members.
Merger Will Be Final Aug. 1
GREENBELT, Md.-Montgomery County Teachers FCU and Educational Systems FCU said they have finalized their merger effective Aug. 1. Educational Systems FCU will be the surviving charter, and the combined institution will have nearly $800-million in assets and 95,000 members.
CUES Membership Reaches 10,000
MADISON, Wis.-CUES reported it has hit a new membership milestone, serving more than 10,000 individual CU members. The figure represents 50% membership growth since 2009 and includes industry employees, directors, and suppliers, CUES said. CUES credited the growth to new membership options, including CUES NextGen individual membership, the addition of group memberships based on asset size, and its Center for Credit Union Board Excellence
Mich. First Selects Spokesperson
LATHRUP VILLAGE, Mich. -From more than 35 candidates Michigan First CU has selected Austin Chapman as its 2012-2013 spokesperson for Young & Free Michigan campaign, which seeks to spread a positive financial message to young adults in metro Detroit. Chapman, a Benton Harbor, Mich. native and Lawrence Tech student, will be a full-time, salaried employee for the year representing Michigan First through daily blog and weekly video updates, at a variety of local events and through multiple media appearances.
Haggard Retires, Whitten To Succeed
CORDOVA, Tenn.-HealthNet FCU said Mike Haggard is retiring after 24 years as its president and is being succeeded by Bill Whitten, vice president of the $46-million credit union. Whitten has been a senior executive at the credit union for 15 years. Haggard has been in credit union leadership positions for the past 38 years, including with the Tennessee CU League and Volunteer Corporate CU. HealthNet FCU serves health care providers in Tennessee, Arkansas and Mississippi.
Gabriel Named To CUNA Mutual Bd
MADISON, Wis.-Caren Gabriel, president CEO of Ascend FCU in Tullahoma, Tenn., has been appointed to the board of of CUNA Mutual Holding Co. The $1.6-billion CU serves 137,000 members.
SACU Honored As Best Place To Work
SAN ANTONIO-SACU has been recognized by The San Antonio Business Journal as one of the Best Places to Work for 2012. The award highlights companies in the greater San Antonio area which have high levels of employee satisfaction and positive workplace cultures. This is the third year SACU has been so recognized.
Regimbal Steps Down After Merger
YAKIMA, Wash.-Paul Regimbal, CEO of the former Catholic Credit Union has retired after 24 years of service in credit unions. Mr. Regimbal stepped down from his role as CEO upon the merger of Catholic and Yakima Valley Credit Unions on Oct. 1, 2011, which formed Solarity CU. Since that time, Regimbal has been serving as Solarity's Sr. VP Corporate Integration. During his tenure at the former CCU, Regimbal led the credit union through two successful mergers including one in 1992 with Kittitas County Catholic Credit Union in Ellensburg.
Virginia CU League Honors Two
LYNCHBURG, Va. -The Virginia league has honored two people. Kenneth R, Davis, CEO of Hampton V.A. FCU, was named winner of the 2012 Eugene H. Farley, Jr. Award of Excellence, while the retired Eugene W. Johnson was presented with the James P. Kirsch Lifetime Achievement Award. Johnson's relationship with credit union dates to 1949.
RBFCU Named Best Financial Institution
LIVE OAK, Texas-Randolph-Brooks FCU noted it has been named Best Financial Institution in Hays County, Best of the Best Financial Institution in the Cedar Park/Leander area, Best Financial Institution in Comal County, and Best Credit Union and Mortgage Lender in Guadalupe County. In addition, RBFCU employees ranked the credit union among the best places to work in both San Antonio and in Texas.
