Blankenberger New Region 4 Director
ALEXANDRIA, Va.-NCUA has named Larry Blankenberger, associate director of operations in Southwest Region 4, as Director of its Northeast Region 1. Blankenberger will succeed Mark Treichel, who was promoted to be the agency's executive director last month. Treichel is succeeding David Marquis, who is retiring at the end of the month.
Indiana Foundation Awards $45K
NAPERVILLE, Ill.-The Illinois Credit Union Foundation said it has awarded $45,100 in Small Credit Union Development (SCUD), Community Service, Marketing and Business Development, and Financial Independence & Revitalization Effort (FIRE) grants, bringing the total awarded for the year to more than $125,300.
CUES HQ Named After Johnson
MADISON, Wis.-The Credit Union Executives Society headquarters building here has been named The Fred Johnson Center for Leadership Development in honor of its long-time president and CEO, Fred Johnson, who is retiring on Dec, 31, 2012. "(Fred's) contributions to CUES will leave a lasting legacy, so naming the building in his honor is truly a fitting tribute," said CUES Chairman Teresa Freeborn. "Under his command, CUES has grown in many ways, including the implementation of CUES' flagship CEO Institute, enhanced director education offerings and new membership structures. When Fred began working at CUES in 1989, there were 3,000 members; today there are more than 10,000. In addition, revenue has tripled since 1989."

BVCU To Operate IMCU Branch
BOULDER, Colo.-Boulder Valley Credit Union (BVCU) has assumed control of the Boulder-based branch and equipment of Indiana Members Credit Union (IMCU) and will continue to provide service for IMCU's Colorado members. This agreement calls for the facility to also function as a BVCU branch.
Former CEO Banned By NCUA
ALEXANDRIA, Va.-Joyce Judy, the former CEO of Arkansas Employees FCU, has been banned from the credit union industry by NCUA for stealing $500,000 from a member that she used for her own investment. Judy pleaded guilty a year ago and was sentenced to 26 months in prison. NCUA also banned Kimberly Unger, a former employee of Spencerport (N.Y.) FCU.
Calif., Nevada Chairs Elected
RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif.-San Diego County CU CEO Teresa Halleck has been re-elected chair of the California CU League. In Nevada, Wayne Tew, CEO of Clark County CU, has been elected chair of the Nevada league.
More CUs In Mergers
HONOLULU-Aloha Pacific FCU is absorbing via merger Hawaii Stevedores/Castle & Cooke FCU. APFCU will maintain a branch at the Dole Cannery. In Derbey Line, Vt., meanwhile, state regulators have shuttered $3.4-million Border Lodge CU, making it the 19th CU failure of 2012. In Washington, The Partnership FCU said it has completed its merger with Fannie Mae FCU.
European CUs Meet With Policymakers
BRUSSELS-Representatives from the European Network of Credit Unions (ENCU) and World Council of Credit Unions met with policymakers in Brussels to discuss regulatory issues related to draft directives concerning data protection, the proposed pan-European banking union and deposit guarantee schemes currently under consideration in the European Union. In anticipation of Ireland becoming the EU president, ENCU delegates also met with Michael Taggart, financial services attaché, Permanent Representation of Ireland to the EU, to address proposed directives that would excessively burden credit unions.
USF FCU Donates $300K
TAMPA, Fla.-USF FCU said it is giving $300,000 to the University of South Florida's USF Foundation to support scholarships and programs within the Morsani College of Medicine and to provide passport scholarships for USF System undergraduates.
Job Titles Being Changed
SIOUX FALLS, S.D.-Sioux Empire FCU said it is transitioning employee titles "loan officer" and "loan processor" to "member service officer" to "better reflect the types of member service offered."
