NCUA Is Praised For Leadership

ALEXANDRIA, Va.-NCUA has been named as one of the top five mid-sized federal agencies for effective leadership, according to the Partnership for Public Service's latest report. A December 2012 Partnership report listed NCUA as one of the best places to work in the federal government. That report also lauded NCUA's leadership, a major factor in employee job satisfaction. NCUA's leadership effectiveness score for 2012 was 64.6 on a scale of 100, fourth among mid-sized federal agencies. The agency's score was 5.3 points higher than in 2011. The overall 2012 score for federal agencies was 52.8, a 2.1 point decline.

Kimble Named Texas Pro of Year

DENTON, Texas-The Texas CU League has named Dale Kimble, president of DATCU Credit Union, as its 2013 Professional of the Year. The award recognizes "distinguished leaders and professionals that have a deep commitment to the credit union industry and movement.

SDCCU Is Talking The Walk

SAN DIEGO, Calif.--San Diego County Credit Union was the title sponsor of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society's 2013 San Diego County Credit Union Walk MS, to be held April 21 and 27. It was the 12th consecutive year that SDCCU has served as title sponsor.

Iowans Are Saving, But Not Enough

DES MOINIES, Iowa-A survey by the conducted by the Iowa league has found Iowans are doing better at saving than the national average, but still aren't doing enough. The survey found 60% said they have a savings account designated for emergencies; but 28.9% indicated their savings will not cover one month of essential expenses. Forty-eight percent have used their savings to purchase a non-emergency item within the last 12 months.

LCUL Hosts Young Professionals

LAFAYETTE, La.-The Louisiana league hosted its second Young Professionals Network Workshop here, drawing 85 people from 25 CUs to network and discuss career growth opportunities. Among those speaking toe the group were Neighbors FCU CEO Kathi Gill and Mazuma CU Chief Culture Officer Matt Munge.

Wisconsintes Have Saved $1 Billion

PEWAUKEE, Wis.-The Wisconsin league reported that nearly 90,000 Wisconsinites joined CUs in 2012, and that since 2007 CU members have saved nearly $1 billion vs. having done financial business elsewhere.

Hershey FCU's Roberts To Retire

HUMMELSTOWN, Penn.-Diana Roberts, CEO of Hershey FCU here, has announced plans to retire in July after 31 years. Paul Wagner, VP-operations and lending, has been named to succeed Roberts. In Moline, Ill., DHCU Community CU President Terry Brahm is retiring, but will retain the CEO title and serve on the board until May 2014. DHCU EVP/COO Matt McCombs has been named to replace Brahm as president, and will become president/CEO upon Brahm's retirement.

Alliant Named To Honor Roll

CHICAGO-Alliant CU has been named to the 2013 Honor Roll by the Center for Companies That Care, the second year it has been so honored. ACU was recognized for ensuring social sustainability by engaging employers in improving the lives of employees, families and communities.

Ishpeming Community Now TruNorth

ISHPEMING, Mich.-Ishpeming Community FCU has changed its name to TruNorth FCU to better reflect its five-county FOM. "This name combines tradition and the future," said Georgie Isola, president of the $125-million credit union. "TruNorth fits the credit union as Tru reminds our members of truth, trustworthiness, and confidence while North reflects the geographic area."

Int'l Regulators Publish Princples

SAN DIEGO-The International Credit Union Regulators' Network (ICURN) issued a new guiding principles document titled "Enhancing Governance of Cooperative Financial Institutions" at its ICURN Annual Conference here.

The ICURN guidance incorporates 17 elements considered desirable in facilitating effective governance of cooperative financial institutions, including credit unions and savings and credit cooperative organizations.
