REDLANDS, Calif.-Richard Halloway, has been named CEO of Alta Vista CU. A former NCUA examiner, Halloway has been serving as interim CEO of the $134 million CU since October, 2012. In Charlotte, N.C., the $37 million Blue Flame CU said Benjamin Hill, CEO since 1990, has retired after 37 years in credit unions. And in Gardiner, Maine, Phil Bergeron, who began his credit union career in 1969 while in college as a volunteer director Notre Dame FCU, and spent the 26 years as CEO of Gardiner FCU, has retired, as has David Rossignol, who spent 15 years as CEO at $156 million NorState FCU. Susan Whitehead has been named to succeed Rossignol. In Pleasanton, Calif., Erin Mendez has been named CEO. Mendez was previously EVP/COO at the $9.7 billion Schools First FCU in, Santa Ana, Calif. In Clackamas, Ore., Mary Greco has been named CEO of the $250 million Clackmas FCU. Greco was previously EVP.

Pair of DE's, 1 Program Recognized

MADISON, Wis.-The National CU Foundation's Development Education (DE) program has named two people and one organization as winners of awards. The winner of the Individual Achievement Award is Paul Thompson, who is being recognized for his book, "Development of the Modern U.S. Credit Union 1970-2010." Excerpts from the book appeared in Credit Union Journal earlier this year. The Cooperative Spirit Award has gone to North Carolina's DEs for creating and offering a History and Philosophy Conference for North Carolina CU professionals. The Lifetime Achievement Award has gone presented to Bob Schumacher, the former CEO of Mountain Crest CU and well known as the long-time master of ceremonies for the annual Herb Wegner Awards.

LSCU Recognizes Two People, 1 CU

BIRMINGHAM, Ala., and TALLAHASSEE, Fla.-The League of Southeastern Credit Unions has honored two people. Jim H. Mitchell, president/CEO of Army Aviation Center FCU has been named the 2013 Professional of the Year, while Roger Turnquist, former board member with Army Aviation FCU, was posthumously named the 2013 Volunteer of the Year. Meanwhile, Dunedin-based Achieva Credit Union was named Credit Union of the Year in the $500 million in assets or more category.

White Hat Winners Are Named

BOSTON-At its annual meeting here, NAFCU named the winners of its 2013 White Hat Award and the NAFCU/PAC Credit Union Challenge. The White Hat Award, which goes to the NAFCU-member CU that raised the most money for NAFCU/PAC in the past year, went to Members 1st FCU in Mechanicsburg, Pa., led by CEO Bob Marquette, which raised $81,000 in 2012. It is the fifth year in a row it has won this award. Winners of the CU Challenge Award for raising the most money in direct individual contributions for NAFCU/PAC within their respective asset categories were: Central Virginia FCU; JetStream FCU, and SRP FCU. The individual winner was Ed Templeton, CEO of SRP FCU.

Volunteer Institute Sept. 22-25

Ocala Community Expands

OCALA, Fla.-State regulators have approved Ocala Community CU to expand its FOM to anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Belleview, Fla., a potential expansion of 16,000.

66 FCU Now Truity Credit Union

BARTLESVILLE, Okla.-The $635 million 66 FCU has changed its name to Truity Credit Union. The new name is a combination of trust and integrity.

Catalyst Forum Is Oct. 22-23

Zerfas Retires From ECUC

SPANISH FORT, Ala.-After 30 years with the Education Credit Union Council, Lorraine Zerfas has retired. Karen Meyer, formerly of KB Meyer Consulting, has been named as the new executive director.

SECU Supporting GKCU Back Office

RALEIGH, N.C.-State Employees' CU has signed an operating contract with Greater Kinston CU to provide full back-office support to help the $11 million CU minimize expenses. The two credit unions said the conversion to SECU's systems and services will boost service at GKCU.
