CU Appeals To generations

SAN ANTONIO–San Antonio City Employee FCU is changing its name to generations FCU. The move reflects an expanded FOM, according to the CU, which said the lower case “g” in the name is aimed at reflecting that it is non-institutional and different.

Meanwhile, in Falcon Heights, Minn., Twin City Co-ops FCU has changed its name to Spire FCU. The $574-million Spire FCU said it was seeking a name that did not define it geographically.

Wis. Merger To Be Done In Fall

MADISON, Wis.–Members of Summit Credit Union have approved a merger with Great Wisconsin CU, clearing the way for the deal to be completed by Fall.

When complete, the merged institution, which will use the Great Wisconsin charter but the Summit name, will be the state’s largest with 110,000 members, 20 branches and more than $1 billion in assets.

The Wisconsin Bankers Association issued a statement critical of the merger, saying the CUs are not serving low-income members.

New DE Scholarships Available

MADISON, Wis.–New scholarship funds are available to attend the Development Education (DE) training offered by the National Credit Union Foundation.

The funds were raisded in honor of Michael Ray of Congressional FCU, who annual has hosted a reception for DE‚s at his home in Washington in conjunction with CUNA‚s GAC. The 102 DEs at Ray’s house raised $2,800 to capitalize the fund.

Branch Design, Service Studied

MADISON, Wis.–The CUNA Councils have released white papers on designing a credit union branch and strategies for building a sales and service culture.

“Rethinking Branch Design: Strategies for Non-Traditional Approaches to Branch Design and Operations” from the CUNA Operations, Sales, and Service Council offers a fresh look into how and why credit unions are developing experimental approaches to designing their “right” branch, and identifies trends and marketplace pressures that have led to new approaches.

“Building a Sales and Service Culture,” sponsored by the CUNA Marketing and Business Development Council, identifies different approaches and considerations to implementing a sales and service environment. The paper addresses staffing, incentive plans, operations support, technology, and measuring success. It also offers advice from six different credit unions on their unique approaches.
