PA Suprime Court Favors CUs
HARRISBURG, Penn.–Pennsylvania’s Supreme Court has issued an order upholding the Commonwealth Court’s decision favoring CUs on three separate taxation issues. The Pennsylvania CU Association noted, however, that one issue, uniformity of taxation, remains in front of the COmmonwealth Court, and that once it’s resolved all four issues could again be appealed to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. “It’s a very positive development in this complex series of tax cases,” said Rick Wargo, Association EVP/General Counsel, in a released statement. “The unfortunate procedural posture of this series of cases makes it difficult to reach an ultimate conclusion.”
Cabral: Crisis Is Manageable
DALLAS–U.S. Treasurer Anna Maria Escobedo Cabral told attendees of the 5th Latino Credit Union Conference, organized by the National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions (Federation) and the Network of Latino Credit Unions and Professionals (NLCUP) that some 1.7 million families who took out subporime loans between June 2005 and 2007 are now facing foreclosure. “We know that the housing crisis itself is a manageable issue,” said Cabral, calling on CUs to continue doing everything they can to help educate consumers about the services available to help them keep their homes.
NE Leagues Unveil Magazine
MARLBOROUGH, Mass.–The Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island leagues, which are jointly managed, have unveiled a new full-color quarterly magazine called “CenterPoint” as changes are made to its other publications. “The transition to a monthly electronic newsletter will allow for greater flexibility, while increasing efficiency and timeliness,” said league CEO Dan Egan.
CUANM Taps Award Recipients
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.–Three CU representatives were honored for their service during the CU Association of New Mexico’s annual convention.
