CUs 3rd In Poll Of Consumers
NEW YORK–Credit unions moved up slightly but still finished third in a survey of consumers who were asked whether their financial services provider has their best interests at heart, even as the survey found overall that most consumers believe those same institutions do not. Forrester Research’s fifth annual customer advocacy scorecard surveyed 5,000 U.S. consumers found 65% of consumers said their CU had their best intersts at heart. That trailed customers of USAA (76%) and “independent financial advisor” (67%).
Happy Birthday, Federal CU Act
ALEXANDRIA, Va.–NCUA Board Member Gigi Hyland said she plans to facilitate a symposium in June of 2009 in recognition of the 75th Anniversary of the Federal Credit Union Act, which was signed into law by President Franklin D. Roosevelt on June 26, 1934. Hyland said the symposium will be one in a series of commemorative efforts the agency will undertake to highlight the anniversary. The two-day symposium will be held in Washington in June 2009 and will focus on the current financial marketplace, the importance of federal deposit insurance, opportunities for credit unions to serve all segments of their field of membership; and opportunities for modernization of the FCU Act.
Rogers Elected NFCDCU Chair
NEW YORK–The National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions has elected its 2008 Board and executive officers. They include: Chair, Eunice J. Rogers CEO of NRS Community Development FCU in Birmingham, Ala.; Vice-Chair, Randy Chambers, CFO of Self-Help CU in Durham, NC; Treasurer, Helen Godfrey Smith, CEO of Shreveport FCU; Corresponding Secretary Lynda Milton, CEO of Houston Teamsters FCU, and Recording Secretary, Deyanira Del Rio, chairman of the Lower East Side Peoples' FCU in New York.
