WOCCU Releases World CU Data
MADISON, Wis.–CUs around the world added approximately 5-million new members during 2007, according to World Council of CU (WOCCU) data. WOCCU’s 2007 Statistical Report shows 49,134 CUs operating in 96 countries serving 177-million people, up from 46,377 CUs that served slightly more than 172 million members in 97 countries one year earlier Worldwide, CU assets grew by 8.2% in 2007 to US$1.2 trillion in 2007, including more than US$900 billion in savings. Africa led asset growth during the year with a 37.3% increase. Globally, capital averaged 9.8% of total non-risk-adjusted assets in 2007, while membership in credit unions grew by 3.1%. During 2007, membership growth was strongest in Africa at 15.1%.
Community Impact Team Sets Goal
SAGINAW, Mich.–The $260-million Team One CU here said it has formed a “Community Impact Team” with a goal of having 1,000 hours of community service donated by its employees by year-end. Events in which employees will participate include Relay for Life, the Adopt-a-Highway program and other various causes throughout the communities Team One serves. Community Impact Team members choose when and how to serve their hours “The credit union philosophy is people helping people, the credit union way. Team One has always embraced this philosophy, whether it is through helping our members or our communities,” said CEO Konnie Werner.
EECU Named Best Local CU
FORT WORTH–The $740-million EECU was named Best Local Bank/CU in a poll of readers of the Star-Telegram here. “It’s a strong testament to EECU’s mission to serve the needs of members, maintain good stewardship and stay involved in community events,” said CEO Lonnie Nicholson.
CUES To Host Celebrate Hope
MADISON, Wis.–CUES said it will host a new event, Celebrate Hope, Aug. 10 at Capital Brewery in Middleton, Wis. The inaugural event will support the Creating Hope Lung Cancer Campaign, which provides funds for national lung cancer research at the University of Wisconsin Paul P.
