WOCCU Creates Fund For Aussie Fire Victims
MADISON, Wis.-World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU) has established a fund to help victims of Australia's brushfires, many of whom are members of the country's credit unions. WOCCU is working in collaboration with Credit Union Foundation Australia (CUFA) to collect tax-deductible contributions that will be administered through the Red Cross Victorian Brushfire Appeal. Donations may also be sent by check to Valerie Breunig's attention at: Worldwide Foundation for Credit Unions, Inc., 5710 Mineral Point Road, Madison, WI 53705. In all cases, please indicate that your donation is designated for the Australian Brushfire Relief Fund.

NCUA's Hood Hosts Risk Mitigation Summit
ATLANTA, Va.-NCUA Vice Chairman Rodney Hood will host a Risk Mitigation Summit this week at the Federal Reserve Bank of Georgia here. The summit is full, and those interested in participating are being wait-listed. Among the issues to be discussed, according to Hood, is the Corporate Stabilization Program. Among the speakers are Chris Brown, CFO/Director of Retail Payments Risk Forum with the Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta, Dr. Robert Manning, Director of the Center for Consumer Financial Services; NCUA Director of Risk Management John Kutchey and NCUA Director of Capital Markets Owen Cole.

Iowa Gov. Culver Signs IDA Legislation
DES MOINES-Gov. Culver signed legislation that will provide $250,000 in state funding for nine credit unions to develop Individual Development Accounts to help victims of last year's flooding. The credit unions worked with the Iowa CU Foundation to develop the IDA program in response to last year's floods, which destroyed hundreds of homes and businesses.
An IDA is a matched savings account where the savings of a participant is matched by a grant from another organization. The participating institutions are: Affinity CU, Ascentra CU, Cedar Falls Community CU, Community 1st CU, Dupaco Community CU, Dutrac Community CU, Employees CU, Linn Area CU, and Veridian CU.
