WASHINGTON-The National Credit Union Foundation is calling for entries for its 2010 Herb Wegner Awards. The deadline for nominations is Friday, June 19. NAFCU Forms Breach Response Team
WASHINGTON-NAFCU's regulatory affairs division has formed a data breach response team to help NAFCU members cope with the fallout from security breaches such as the recent Heartland Payment Systems breach. NAFCU Regulatory Affairs Director Carrie Hunt said the team will provide information to credit unions to help them communicate a breach to their members and explain why a new credit card must be issued. NAFCU said the team will also help interested credit unions keep abreast of class-action lawsuits, including any opportunity to participate, and it will provide materials for NAFCU members to lobby Congress for data security reforms.

Merged League Announces First Board
TALLAHASSEE, Fla.-The League of Southeastern Credit Unions (LSCU), the newly created entity formed by the merger of the Alabama and Florida leagues, has named its first board, with eight representatives from each state. Executive officers will be elected by and from the appointed board members at an upcoming organizational meeting. The new board members are: Ola Anise of Azalea City CU, Alabama ; Alvin Cowans of McCoy FCU, Florida; Dale Dalbey of Mutual Savings CU, Alabama; John Hirabayashi of Community First CU of Florida; Rich Helber of GTE FCU, Florida; Brent Lister of First Florida CU; Pat Mason of Sun CU, Florida; Joe McGee of Legacy Community FCU, Alabama; Greg Olmsted of North Alabama Educators CU, Alabama; Larry Scott of Campus USA CU, Florida; Deborah Seymour of Multi Media CU, Florida; Bob Steensma of Five Star CU, Alabama; Steve Swofford of Alabama CU, Alabama; Linda Walker of Riverdale CU, Alabama; Tina Williams of The Infirmary FCU, Alabama, and Mary Wood of West Coast CU, Florida.
$57K Raised For Victory Junction Camp
CHARLOTTE, N.C.-Forty representatives from credit unions in North and South Carolina used a charity golf event to raise approximately $57,000 for the Victory Junction Gang Camp, a NASCAR-themed facility for chronically and terminally ill children. The Fifth Annual Carolinas Cup at the Mid Pines Inn & Golf Club in Southern Pines, N.C., was hosted by the Carolinas Credit Union Foundation, the North and South Carolina credit union leagues and CUNA Mutual Group. The Carolinas Cup event, which this year was won by the North Carolina contingent, has generated more than $222,000 for Victory Junction since its inception. Victory Junction was founded by NASCAR driver Kyle Petty and his wife, Pattie, in memory of their son, Adam, who was killed in a racing accident.
