NCUF Innovation Grants Now Accepting Apps
WASHINGTON-Credit union organizations are now eligible to apply for new Innovation Grants from the National Credit Union Foundation (NCUF) through June 30.
Innovation Grants are aligned with NCUF's signature program, REAL Solutions, however, participation in REAL Solutions is not required to apply for a grant.
NCUF is seeking grant applications in any of REAL Solutions' five service areas: education, transaction services, savings, credit and homeownership.
Eligible applicants include credit unions, CUSOs, state CU associations and foundations, and any other organizations owned or controlled by credit unions.
Laid-Off CU Employees Launch Support Website
VICTORVILLE, Calif.-Twelve women who formed a support group after being laid off when High Desert FCU was placed into federal conservatorship earlier this year have now launched a website.
The group said the site had nearly 5,500 hits in its first six days after launch. The site features site that resources for people doing job searched, tips for resumes, and an outlet for other unemployed people to vent a bit of their frustration as they search for a job. The former employees, none of whom has landed a job since being laid off, call themselves the Sisterhood of Support and have some 200-plus years in cumulative experience, were featured in Credit Union Journal March 9.

Iowa CU Pioneer Al Jordan Passes Away At 101
DES MOINES, Iowa-Al Jordan, one of the last of the credit union pioneers and whose CU career spanned seven decades, has died at the age of 101. Jordan began his career as treasurer of the former Western Union Employees CU in 1938 before joining the Iowa league in 1953 as what was then known as a "field man" helping organize new credit unions. In 1954 he was named ICUL president and championed the league's data processing center.
When Jordan retired in 1981, more than 400 people turned out, including several members of Congress. Jordan remained active in CUs after retiring, serving as president of the National Association of Retired Credit Union People. Memorial contributions can be made to the A.W. Jordan Scholarship Fund of the Iowa Credit Union Foundation.
