Texas CUs Adopt NCUF's REAL Solutions

DALLAS-CUs from across the state met here recently to put together a more affordable payday loan alternative to help underserved potential members. Texas adopted NCUF's REAL Solutions platform in 2008; at the recent meeting a program director laid out three payday loan model choices being used in other parts of the country. Attendees pulled elements from all of the models to create their own recommendations for what Texas CUs will use.

Minn. CUs Host State House Speaker

ST. PAUL, Minn.-The Minnesota CU Network hosted a gathering for state Speaker of the House Margaret Anderson Kelliher as part of a two-day series of congressional meetings. CU representatives told the speaker about their troubles in the housing market, concerns with mortgage mediation legislation, and their desire to work with members experiencing financial troubles.

Kane Retires From Red Canoe After 37 Yrs.

LONGVIEW, Wash.-Red Canoe CU President/CEO Bob Kane is retiring in July after spending 37 years there and leading the $527-million institution since 1991. The board selected David Spaulding, CFO for the last 14 years, as the new chief executive. Spaulding, who has spent 25 years in the credit union industry, spent five years as president another credit union.

4 Families Compete In CU's 'Project Money'

MADISON, Wis.-Four families have been selected to compete in a reality-based financial challenge sponsored by Summit CU here. The seven-month long program, called "Project Money," will provide the families with plans, tools and advice to reach their financial goals. Their progress and stories will be featured on the credit union's website and blog as well as in media outlets throughout the community.

Redstone Veteran Retires After 39 Years

HUNTSVILLE, Ala.-Stephen White, Redstone FCU's VP-technology, will retire from the state's largest credit union after 39 years of service. White, a 10-year veteran of the US Army Reserve, first joined Redstone in 1970 as a computer operator. He plans to head back to his new home in Madison County and spend his retirement days with his family.

Heritage CU Adopts New Brand Identity

MADISON, Wis.-Heritage Credit Union here is transforming its brand identity and, as a part of that process, is rolling out a new logo and a new tagline: "Expect More. Feel the difference." The new motto helps to the difference that members feel at every touchpoint, the credit union said. The new logo carries elements of the old, but with a more simplified and modern look.
