CUAO Names Award Winners
BEAVERTON, Ore.-Credit Union Association of Oregon has announced the winners of its 2006 awards program.
The Volunteer Distinguished Service Award went to Barb Blackmore of Northwest Community Credit Union, Springfield, while the Professional Distinguished Service Award was awarded posthumously to Beaverton-based First Tech CU's Mike Osborne. The Volunteer Credit Union Advocate of the Year Award went to Mike Clack, NW Priority Credit Union. Cameron Dickey, of Providence Health Systems FCU, is this year's Credit Union Advocate of the Year in the professional category.
Freudenreich Honored By CUES
PHOENIX-L. Ben Freudenreich, director of BMI Federal Credit Union in Columbus, Ohio, was named the 2006 CUES Directors Educational Forum Director of the Year.
Freudenreich has volunteered with the BMI Federal Credit Union for 25 years. His work began as co-chair of the credit committee and then filled a vacancy on the board of directors.
The DEF Director of the Year award recognizes board members who raise the bar of excellence in credit union volunteerism.
Louisiana CUL Forms Task Force
HARAHAN, La.-The Louisiana CU League is forming a task force on payday and predatory lending.
The task force will investigate viable alternatives to payday and predatory lending and be a resource for credit unions interested in offering such alternatives to their members.
The league is asking credit unions that have already instituted alternative lending programs and/or financial literacy programs that focus on payday and alternative lending to share that information with the league.

MADISON, Wis.-A member-oriented approach to sales and building member loyalty through relationship pricing are the focus of new white papers from two of the CUNA Councils.
"Sales versus Service? How a Members-First Approach Elevates Sales to Highest Form of Service," focusing on how to launch and maintain a "sales as service" program, was sponsored by the CUNA Operations, Sales and Service Council.
The second new white paper, "Building Loyalty with Members Through Relationship Pricing" explores the concept of relationship pricing as a means of developing member loyalty while also increasing product penetration and reducing product delivery costs. It was sponsored by the CUNA Marketing and Business Development Council.
