ANCHORAGE, Alaska-A CUSO of Alaska USA FCU is sponsoring the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. Alaska USA Insurance Brokers, which also arranged insurance for Iditarod operations throughout the year, offers insurance for the volunteers who help make "The Last Great Race On Earth" a reality every year.

Newcomb To Lead SELCO Companies

EUGENE, Ore.-Credit Union veteran Bob Newcomb has been named the new CEO of SELCO Community CU and its insurance and mortgage CUSOs.

Newcomb comes to SELCO from Indiana University Federal Credit Union, where he served as CEO. In addition, Newcomb has extensive experience managing multiple business line CUSOs, similar to the types of subsidiary companies SELCO operates.

Former PA. League CEO Dies

HARRISBURG, Penn.-Michael J. Judge, who served as president of the Pennsylvania Credit Union League (now Association) from 1966-91, has died at the age of 80.

The 1998 winner of the Herb Wegner Memorial Award for Lifetime Achievement, Judge was an active leader at both the state and national levels, leading the effort to win share draft powers for credit unions, among many other accomplishments. Judge also won the Eagle Award, from the Association of Credit Union League Executives, was a founding member of the Filene Research Institute and, and after retiring served as chairman of the National Association of Retired Credit Union People. The annual summer credit union school held at Penn State is also now known as the Penn State Judge/Bradley Credit Union School.

NCUF Offers DE Scholarships

MADISON, Wis.-Staff and volunteers from small credit unions can apply for scholarships from the National Credit Union Foundation (NCUF) to attend Credit Union Development Education (DE) training from April 12-17 at the University of Wisconsin in Madison.

Stanford Purchases $12.8M In Student Loans

PALO ALTO, Calif.-The $780-million Stanford FCU said it has purchased $12.8 million in student loans from outside California. All the loans are for graduate students attending Stanford's Graduate School of Business. The loans were purchased from Nelnet, Lincoln, Neb., which will continue to provide business services to Stanford University and life of loan servicing on the purchased loans. "Forming financial relationships with students usually results in long-term relationships that include car loans, home loans and business loans," said Keith Troup, VP-operations with Stanford Federal.
