NORTHVILLE TOWNSHIP, Mich.-The Michigan Credit Union League (MCUL) has created two podcasts featuring Gov. Jennifer Granholm and Senate Majority Leader Mike Bishop discussing Michigan's fiscal crisis and its implications for the state and its residents.

The podcasts can be accessed at www.mcul.org by clicking the "Michigan's Economic Crisis" graphic. The league is asking Michigan CUs to post a link on their websites to these consumer pages "to encourage members to get involved in what may be one of the most significant debates in Michigan's political history."

NYCUF Launches ID Theft Program

ALBANY, N.Y.-The New York CU Foundation has launched a statewide identity theft awareness campaign. The foundation will provide CUs with a project tool kit including promotional materials for the marketing campaign as well as educational programs and materials via in-person training, on-demand webinars and DVDs.

CU Gives $1M Back To Members

MARGATE, Fla.-City County CU is giving $1 million back to its 39,000 members in the form of a special bonus that will be paid out based on each members' account relationship with the CU.

The $270-million credit union said it regularly returns profits to its members through lower rates on loans and higher rates on savings but wanted to go beyond that this year.

Budet Named ECUC President

AUSTIN, Texas-Tony C. Budet, president of University FCU has been elected president of the Education Credit Union Council (ECUC).

Budet has served on the ECUC board for four years.

The $800-million UFCU serves 117,000 members.

Veridian CU Offers Special Loan

WATERLOO, Iowa-Veridian Credit Union has set aside $3 million for a special storm loan program to assist people who suffered property damage or hardship due to the recent storms that ripped through the area.

The storm loan interest rate is fixed at 8.50%. If an individual is willing to make payments through automatic transfer or payroll deduction, the interest rate is lowered to 8.00%. Borrowers will be asked to indicate the specific purpose for the loan when applying.

The maximum loan amount is $5,000 per qualified household. Individuals may apply for the loan through April 30, 2007, or until the $3 million is loaned out, whichever occurs first.
