Johnson Visits Local High School
WOODBRIDGE, Va.-In conjunction with "Financial Literacy Month," NCUA Chairman JoAnn Johnson visited Woodbridge Senior High School to talk about the importance of financial education, demonstrate the www.mymoney.gov website, and present the President's Volunteer Service Award to dedicated student volunteers.
"The sooner America's youth receive the tools and resources of financial education, the better decisions they will make the rest of their lives," said Johnson.
Windsor Wins 'Best Workplace'
WINDSOR, Ontario-Windsor Family Credit Union (WFCU) has been named by Canadian Business magazine as one of the "Best Workplaces in Canada" for 2007. "WFCU has demonstrated to its staff, members and community as well as the Great Place to Work Institute Canada that they exemplify the five trust-building dimensions of a great place to work: credibility, respect, fairness, pride and camaraderie," the publication said. More than 20,000 employees participated in the 57-question survey that was part of the criteria for the selection; the Institute also performed an in-depth review of the organization's culture, including an evaluation of HR policies and procedures.
NCU Offers Relief Loan Program
PORTSMOUTH, N.H.-In response to the recent localized flooding, Northeast Credit Union (NECU) is offering its Relief Loan Program "Neighbors Helping Neighbors."
There are two loans offered in the Relief Loan Program. The Homeowner Relief Loan has no payments for 90 days, a 5.9% Annual Percentage Rate (APR) for a loan amount up to $20,000 with repayment terms of 60 months, or a 6.9% APR with repayment terms of 84 months. The Relief Loan is unsecured and applications must be received by May 31.
The Renters Relief Loan also has no payments for 90 days, a 7.49% APR for a loan amount up to $5,000 with repayment terms of 60 months. The Relief Loan is unsecured and applications must be received by May 31.

NM Gov. Signs Payday Loan Bill
SANTE FE, N.M.-Gov. Bill Richardson has signed a payday lending bill into law. The bill prohibits renewals and rollovers of payday loans, requires automatic 130-day payment plans for those unable to pay on time, imposes a 10-day "cooling off" period before borrowers can request other loans, and has tougher consumer rights signage and Spanish language provisions.
The bill also prohibits loans that exceed 25% of borrowers' gross monthly income.
