Travis Absorbs Napa Valley Schools

VACAVILLE, Calif.-The $1.6-billion Travis CU has absorbed the $15-million Napa Valley Schools CU via a merger. The NVSCU branch will be known as Travis Credit Union, Napa Valley Schools Branch. TCU has 148,000 members.

Also being absorbed via merger: North Hills Municipal Employees CU, whose members are now part of Greater Pittsburgh Police FCU.

Municipal CU's Bill Porter Retires

NEW YORK-Municipal CU said its long-time CEO William Porter, who built the credit union into a $1.3-billion institution and led it through the turmoil surrounding Sept. 11, has retired. Porter was succeeded by Kam Wong, who has been a Municipal executive since 1988 and has been serving as president since August. Porter had a 40-year career in banking, which may have been remembered most for the days and months after the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center when hundreds of thousands of city workers relied on his credit union for emergency financial services. He was selected by the New York Banking Department in 1981 to take over Municipal CU, then a financially troubled $97-million CU.

Laney Leaves After 50-Year Career

PHILADELPHIA-After 50 years with the credit union in some capacity, Earl Laney has retired as CEO of Philadelphia Inquirer & Daily News Employees FCU. Laney joined the credit union in 1956 as a member of the board. He took over as manager of the now $42-million CU in 1987, and was active in the local chapter during his career.

MACU Offers Biz Remote Deposit

SALT LAKE CITY-Mountain America CU is making life easier for business owners by offering business remote deposit. The CU launched the new service in late January and has already signed up eight businesses. MACU partnered with MoneyGram and Creative Payment Solutions to launch the program.

Guy Wins Gary Gillam Award

ONTARIO, Canada-Denyse Guy, Executive Director of the Ontario Co-operative Association, received the Gary Gillam Award for Corporate Social Responsibility award, which honors exemplary achievements in promoting social and community economic development through credit unions and co-operatives. The award is jointly sponsored by Credit Union Central of Ontario and Alterna Savings and Credit Union.
