NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C.-South Carolina Federal Credit Union has been named one of the Best Places to Work in South Carolina by SCBIZ.

The Best Places to Work program recognizes 20 companies that provide the best employee experiences at the individual, team and organizational levels. The credit union was named one of the Best Places to Work in South Carolina after a random survey revealed consistent quality in employees' work place experience and in the health of the organization's culture.

South Carolina Federal employees are eligible for gym discounts and reimbursement for membership fees, reimbursement for participation in smoking cessation programs and Education Time Off for volunteering at a family member's school during work hours.

LFCU Among Best Places To Work

Burbank, Calif.-Lockheed Federal Credit Union (LFCU) took "Best Places to Work In Los Angeles" honors by ModernThink.

Among the perks for which LFCU was recognized: bonus programs for every employee, employee mortgage discounts, free quarterly lunches for the entire staff, concierge services such as dry cleaning and car washes, among others.

Falk Named PEFCU President

West Lafayette, Ind.-Purdue Employees Federal Credit Union announced the promotion of Bob Falk to the newly created position as president and chief operating officer.

In his new position Falk is responsible for lending, branch operations, human resources, and marketing and business development.

Canadian Merger Put On Hold

ONTARIO, Canada-A planned merger between Credit Union Central of Ontario and Credit Union Central of British Columbia has been delayed until year-end due to problems in the asset-backed commercial paper market. The two corporate centrals were to merge Oct. 1. The delay was caused by the inability to put a price tag on the respective non-bank ABCP portfolios, as there is currently a halt in such trading.

VFCU Offers High-Yield Checking

BURLINGTON, Vt.-The $180-million Vermont FCU has become the latest credit union to add a high-yielding, no minimum checking account to its product menu. The credit union's ReWARD Checking pays 6.01% APY on balances up to $25,000, and offers ATM fee refunds up to $25 per month if members meet four criteria per monthly cycle: make at least 12 debit card purchases, make one direct deposit or ACH, payment, access e-Branch24, and register for electronic statements. The product pays 1.01% on all funds beyond $25,001.
