Two Credit Union Founders Die
SPARTANBURG, S.C.-Two men who helped found credit unions have died. Alvin Francis Riser, the founder and co-president of Foothills CU here, has died. Mr. Riser was 93. In Caribou, Maine, Albert J. "Gib" Gagon died at the age of 91. Mr. Gagon had founded Pamson FCU, which later merged with Loring Credit Union and today is known as County FCU.
Barry To Be GAC Closing Speaker
WASHINGTON-Dave Barry, the humorist and writer, will be the closing speaker at CUNA's 2008 GAC on March 6. Barry has most recently published "Dave Barry's History of the Millennium (So Far)," and for 25 years his column appeared in more than 500 newspapers worldwide. Two of his books were the basis for the CBS-TV sitcom, Dave's World.

Oregon Assn. Redesigns Site
BEAVERTON, Ore.-The Credit Union Association of Oregon has revamped its website. "The goal for a redesign was not to simply put on a new faceplate. We offer a lot of resources for our members online and we wanted to create a site that provided an enjoyable and productive experience for our site visitors," said Laura Wieking, director of communications.
The CUAO said it worked with The New Group, a Portland, Ore.-based creative firm specializing in interactive media, to design and implement the site (www.cuao.org). The CUAO staff will be able to make the majority of updates in-house, reducing the maintenance costs. Although most of the site is aimed at CUAO member credit union staff, a consumer section provides useful tools to help people locate and join a credit union to which they have eligibility.
