FirstLight Creates Memorial Fund
EL PASO, Texas-FirstLight FCU has created a memorial fund for the benefit of an injured soldier whose children were killed on the way to the hospital to see him. FirstLight has also made an initial contribution of $10,000 to the fund for Army Specialist John Austin Johnson, who is stationed out of Ft. Bliss, Texas but is currently in a San Antonio hospital for head wounds suffered in Iraq. Johnson's wife, Lisa, lost control of her SUV on the way to the hospital and the vehicle flipped, killing Logan Johnson, 2, and Ashley Johnson, 5. Another son, 9-year-old Tyler, has been hospitalized in Dallas with head inquiries. Lisa Johson was not seriously hurt. Those wishing to make a donation can call 800-351-1670.
Judge Cancels Further Hearings
ALEXANDRIA, Va.-A U.S. District Court judge decided he has sufficient information to decide whether to dismiss the lawsuit filed by the Coalition for Credit Union Charter Options (CCUCO) NCUA's newest rules on credit union conversions to mutual thrifts.
District Court Judge Claude Hilton cancelled a hearing that would have allowed additional argument from both sides regarding the NCUA's motion to dismiss the case. The court's decision on the NCUA motion to dismiss could come at any time.
Xerox FCU To Absorb Tiger FCU
EL SEGUNDO, Calif.-Xerox FCU (XFCU) and Tiger FCU (TFCU), both headquartered here, are merging. The $60-million TFCU, which has 9,800 members, will be absorbed by the $723 million XFCU. Rosemary Helgeson, TFCU president & CEO, said the move will provide greater economies of scale and more products to its members. Helgeson will become a consultant to the credit union following the merger. Theresa Freeborn will be CEO of the combined entity.
