NAFCU Backs Savings Campaign
ALEXANDRIA, Va.–NAFCU said it will support America Saves Week and Military Saves Week, Feb. 24--March 2, two national campaigns that encourage consumers to save and build wealth, and is urging its member CUs to do the same. Workshop On Mortgage Issues
NEW YORK–The National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions is planning a two-day workshop in March that will include classes on foreclosure prevention and homeownership counseling. The “Mortgage Lending Strategies in Uncertain Times,” is scheduled for March 18-19 at the Center for Responsible Lending in Durham, N.C.

State Regulators Hold Meeting
SAN FRANCISCO– Regulators from six states gathered here last week for the first in a series of NASCUS Regional Regulator Meetings. Hosted by NASCUS and the California Department of Financial Institutions, the meeting included regulators from California, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon and Utah. On tap for discussion: examination and supervision issues as well as unrelated business income tax (UBIT), interstate branching, member business lending, examiner education and capital reform.
New CU In Del. Moves Closer
WILMINGTON, Del.–Progress is being made on chartering a new CU in Delaware. The Delaware league reported that the Delaware Community Reinvestment Action Council has received a $100,000 grant from the Longwood Foundation to renovate a building to serve as a low-income community credit union and personal finance training center. The credit union has been tentatively named “Stepping Stones,” because its mission will be to offer financial services to low-income residents as an alternative to high-interest payday lenders.
