Hall Named 'Next Top CU Exec'

DALLAS-Tina K. Hall, VP-organizational development with Verity Credit Union, in Seattle, was named as the Next Top Credit Union Exec in a competition sponsored by the Credit Union Executives Society. Hall was announced as the winner at CUES' CEO/Executive Team Network meeting here last week. Hall's credit union project about work/life transcendence was voted in June to represent the West Region. As one of six finalists, Hall's blog and video updates over the past few months provided the industry with insight into her project's progress, and culminated with a final presentation meeting. Hall won a $20,000 educational prize package and will provide further project updates. Other finalists included: Amy Grothaus, CommunityAmerica CU, Kansas City, Mo.; Amy Stanton, Connex CU, North Haven, Conn.; Kelsey Balcaitis, A+ FCU, Austin, Texas; Ronaldo Hardy, La Capitol FCU, Baton Rouge, La.; and Jodi Chambers, Assiniboine CU, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

 

Education First CU Is New Name

COLUMBUS, Ohio-MidState Educators Credit Union has changed its name to Education First Credit Union. The CU said the name change reflects that is it the only CU chartered specifically to serve the education community in all of Ohio.

 

Holiday Loan Help In The Stocking

CHESTERFIELD, Va.-- Chesterfield FCU is offering a Holiday Help Loan as an alternative to payday loans for the 2010 holiday season. The Holiday Help Loan offers approval for a small, short-term loan to current members who have been employed by the same employer or receiving retirement or disability benefits for at least two years. Loan amounts range from $300 - $1000 with terms available from four to nine months. A $500 Holiday Help Loan, for example, offers a 17.95% APR for six months for members with at least five years of consecutive employment. CFCU has set aside $150,000 in funds for this product.

 

Bland Named CEO At Golden 1

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Golden 1 CU named Donna Bland, its chief financial officer, as CEO of the $7-billion credit union. Bland has been serving as interim CEO since the July departure of Teresa Halleck to head San Diego County CU. Bland, a CPA, has been with the California credit union giant for 16 years.

CO-OP Intro's Outbound Call Services

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif.-CO-OP Member Center has introduced Outbound Call Services as a means of helping credit unions boost loans. Two types of Outbound Call Services are being offerd: Outbound Interactive Voice Response (IVR) and Live Agent Calling. Outbound IVR includes services such as sales, new member orientation, payment reminders and phone surveys. Live Agent Calling services include sales, auto loan recapture, pre-screened lending and Regulation E opt-in overdraft protection. In a pilot of the service, CO-OP reported that Austin, Texas-based Amplify FCU generated nearly $1 million in loans during two separate two-week lending campaigns.

 

CU Student Choice To Expand

WASHINGTON--Credit Union Student Choice, a CUSO that provides turn-key private student lending services, said it will roll out private consolidation and graduate business loan programs to all of its clients in 2011. "Through the delivery of private consolidation loans to college graduates and graduate loans to business school students, we will enable credit unions to continue redefining value in education finance while returning valuable loans and direct member relationships to the cooperative," said EVP Scott Patterson. The company has been beta-testing the concept for 10 months.

 

CUES Names Winning Councils

MADISON, Wis.-CUES as named nine of its councils as CUES Outstanding Councils, with each receiving a $500 check to use on future meetings. Recognized were: CUES Alabama Council, CUES Iowa Council and CUES Louisiana Council for groups with 1-74 CUES members; CUES New Jersey Council, CUES Rocky Mountain Council and CUES Wisconsin Council for groups with 75-150 CUES members; and CUES Florida Council, CUES Michigan Council and CUES Ohio Council for groups with more than 150 CUES members.

 

Abrams Named CEO at San Diego CU

SAN DIEGO--San Diego Metropolitan Credit Union has named Stan Abrams as its president and CEO. Abrams had been serving in that capacity on an interim basis since March 1. Previously, Abrams spent nearly 15 years as president/CEO of Partners (formerly VISTA) FCU, and has also been the principal of his own management consulting firm.
