Deadline is June 17 for nominations for the Individual Achievement Award, the Outstanding Organization/Program Award, and the Lifetime Achievement Award. CU Reps Ring Closing Bell

NEW YORK-Credit unions were busy at the New York Stock Exchange last week. Representatives from Biz Kid$, the financial literacy series on public TV, rang the New York Stock Exchange closing bell. Lauren du Pree, one of the show's hosts, and Roxanne Kruger, VP with the Washington CU Foundation, rang the bell. Later, to celebrate Financial Literacy Week, CEO Mark Meyer and Chief Innovation Officer Denise Gabel rang the closing bell at the NYSE.

 

Money Mission Winners Net $8K

MADISON, Wis.-Heartland CU has awarded $8,000 in prizes to two winners of its interactive, online Money Mission game. During the 16-week session, players of the financial education game were encouraged to make a wide range of decisions, including buying a car, trading stocks and holding down a job. The two winners each received $4,000 scholarships.

 

3 CUs Reaffiliate With League

BISMARCK, N.D.--The Credit Union Association of the Dakotas (CUAD) reported that three credit unions have signed on as new affiliates in 2011, Dakotaland FCU of Huron, S.D.; Simply Service FCU of Belle Fourche, S.D., and Dakota Star FCU of Rapid City, S.D.

 

CUES Introduces New School

MADISON, Wis.-CUES has introduced a new School of Product and Channel Management that is to debut in September and be held in Schaumburg, Ill. The program is designed to help credit unions understand innovative product trends and learn new ways to deliver financial services to their members.

ND, WV CUs In Mergers

PORTLAND, N.D.-The 1,400-member Portand CU here has been absorbed via merger by the $336-million First Community CU, Jamestown, N.D. Meanwhile, in Charleston, W.V., Charleston Newspapers FCU is being absorbed via merger by the $79-million Members Choice WV FCU. The $2-million CNFCU had just 310 members.

 

West Named CEO At Affinity Group

PONTIAC, Mich.---The $139-million Affinity Group Credit Union has named Glenda West as its new CEO. West was previously VP-branch operations with Genisys CU, and prior to that CEO of DuPont CU. AGCU oversees four different CU brands: Crestwood Community, Municipal & Health Services WySouth and Kensington Valley Community.

 

Two Foundations To Merge

FEDERAL WAY, Wash.-The Oregon CU Foundation (OCUF) and the Washington CU Foundation said they will merge. The move follows the mergers of the respective state leagues to form the Northwest CU Association. The combined foundations would have $2.5 million in reserves.

 

Baron To Retire From Chetco

HARBOR, Ore.-Stan Baron, CEO of Chetco FCU, is retiring May 1. Mr. Baron joined the credit union nearly 20 years ago as CEO and has overseen growth to $370-million in assets from $100 million. CFCU has also been very active in community activities and youth financial literacy. EVP/General Counsel Peter Spratt has been named interim CEO.

 

CUNA Mutual Adds New Annuities

MADISON, Wis.-CUNA Mutual Group last week said it will begin offering on May 2 Transamerica's four variable annuities to members at thousands of credit unions under CUNA Mutual's MEMBERS brand. CUNA Mutual will sell the Transamerica annuities under the names MEMBERS Landmark, MEMBERS Liberty, MEMBERS Extra and MEMBERS Freedom, providing an expanded suite of retirement solutions for CU members. The Transamerica annuities will replace the existing offering of MEMBERS Variable Annuity products.

 

Grants To Help Yolo Members

YOLO COUNTY, Calif.--Yolo FCU has been awarded 2011 grant funds from the Federal Home Loan Bank to be disbursed to lower income homebuyers within Yolo County. Eligible homebuyers may apply for up to $15,000 in matching grant funds to be used for the downpayment and closing costs involved with purchasing their home. Under the WISH Program, YFCU will match up to $3 for every dollar contributed by the homebuyer toward a home purchase.

 

BFCU Helps Organize 'Fly In'

BETHPAGE, N.Y.--Bethpage FCU here organized a significant "Fly-In" visit to Washington 19 of Long Island's key not-for-profit organizations. The day-long trip, which was funded by Bethpage, was planned to help strengthen government relations for the not-for-profits as part of its Heart of Bethpage giving program. The "Fly-In" delegation included BFCU CEO Kirk Kordeleski.
