Funds Raised For Tornado Victims

MADISON, Wis.-The National Credit Union Foundation (NCUF) reported it has now received over $110,000 in donations to help CU people affected by the devastating storms across Alabama on April 27, 2011. In addition, over $75,000 has been raised from the CU community for Joplin-area CUs following tornadoes there.

The Southeastern Credit Union Foundation (SECUF) has also distributed more than $35,000 in grants to credit union staff affected by the tornadoes.

Mielczarek New CEO At P&SFCU

NEW YORK-The $1.4-billion Polish & Slavic FCU has named Oskar Mielczarek as president and CEO, Mielczarek has worked as an executive with J.P. Morgan Chase, Merrill Lynch and Barclays in North America and Europe. He speaks Polish, English, Spanish and French.

 

FirstMark Wins Two Nat'l Awards

SAN ANTONIO-Firstmark Credit Union was recognized at the Professional Teleservice Management Association with two awards: "Best Contact Center of the Year" in the Under 75 Seats category, and as "Best Contact Center Leader" going to Linda Sue Rodriguez, AVP-member contact center.

 

McGrail New CEO At Foundation

GREENSBORO, N.C.-The Carolinas Credit Union Foundation (CCUF) has named John McGrail as its new president/CEO. McGrail is a 22-year veteran of CUs, and was most recently CEO of Lion's Share FCU in Salisbury, N.C.

 

42 Graduate From CUES Institute

MADISON, Wis.-CUES reported that 42 CU execs recently completed all three years of its executive education program, CEO Institute. In addition, 26 of the graduates earned their Certified Chief Executive (CCE) designation, bringing to 403 the number of people who are CCEs.

 

Kolhoff To NASCUS Board

ARLINGTON, Va.-John J. Kolhoff, deputy commissioner of credit unions for the Michigan Office of Financial and Insurance Regulation, has been appointed to the board of NASCUS to the NASCUS Board of Directors.

 

More CUs In Mergers

WORCESTER, Mass.-The $500-million Webster First FCU is absorbing via a merger the $61-million Saugus FCU. In Kahului, Hawaii, the $99-million Valley Isle Community FCU is absorbing the $4-million Kulia Ohana FCU. In Rochester, N.Y., Summit FCU is absorbing Frontier FCU.

 

NAFCU Promotes Two People

WASHINGTON-NAFCU has named Steve Van Beek as director of compliance and senior federal counsel and Sarah Loats Zimmermann as senior regulatory compliance counsel. Both previously served as NAFCU's regulatory compliance counsels.

 

Prupes Tournament Set For Nov. 4

SAN DIEGO-The Annual Manny Prupes Memorial Golf Tournament & Fundraiser, named in honor of the founder of Symitar Systems, is scheduled for Nov. 4 at San Diego's Maderas Golf Club. Funds raised will benefit the San Diego Brain Tumor Foundation.

NCUA Liquidates Valued Members FCU

JACKSON, Miss.-NCUA last week liquidated the $9-million Valued Members FCU here, with the $104-million Magnolia FCU, also in Jackson, purchasing and assuming the assets, liabilities and members.

 

MD/DC Marketing Winners Recognized

COLUMBIA, Md.-At its 25th Annual Awards Ceremony, the Maryland and District of Columbia Credit Union Association presented 39 awards to 25 CUs in recognition of their marketing and communications and outreach activities. The Christine DeWitt Memorial Award for Excellence in Marketing, Best of Show, went to OAS Staff Federal Credit Union.

 

Four To Tennessee Hall of Fame

NASHVILLE, Tenn.-The Tennessee CU League (TCUL) and Volunteer Corporate CU have inducted four individuals into the Tennessee Credit Union Hall of Fame: Sandy Lingerfelt of Clinchfield Credit Union, William "Bill" and Alice Jenkins of Rohm and Haas Employees Credit Union, and Hardie Phipps, Kennedy VA Employees Federal Credit Union.
